# Entryway and foyer photos with a bright door and an open hall

The entryway is the first interior a buyer sees, and it is often lit from the worst direction: sidelights and a glass transom around the front door push bright daylight into a narrow space, while the hall beyond depends on one ceiling fixture or a pendant. Shooting toward the door puts a glowing opening in the frame, and shooting away from it shows a darker corridor. NovaHDR finishes the entryway with the rest of the property, so the foyer feels welcoming, the door glass stays controlled and the color flows into the rooms it leads to.

The door, flooring and fixtures stay as photographed; the finish adjusts exposure and color only.

## Sending the entryway

1. **Choose the welcoming angle** Most photographers take one view looking in from the door and one looking back toward it from the hall or stairs. Export the frames you want as JPEG, PNG or WebP, with brackets merged in your own software if you shoot them.
2. **Upload it at the start of the property** Name the property and upload the entryway with every other room, up to 50 photos. The foyer usually shares paint and flooring with the hall and living room, so it belongs in the same set.
3. **Send the property, then review** Choose One Property or spend a credit, then send the property with its foyer included. You have the finished set 24 to 72 hours after you send the property, ready for your review.

## Entryway capture notes

Entryways are narrow and backlit, so a little planning goes a long way.

- **Close the front door for the look in**: An open door floods the hall with outdoor light and shows the porch clutter. Closed, the sidelights still give enough daylight.
- **Turn on the foyer pendant**: A lit pendant or chandelier gives a focal point and lifts a dim hall. Dim it if the bulbs blow out.
- **Mind the console mirror**: Many entryways have a mirror over a console table. Check that it shows the room and not the tripod.
- **Clear the shoes and coats**: Shoe racks, coat hooks full of jackets and keys on the table stay in the finished photo. Clear them before shooting.
- **Give the sidelights some detail**: Expose so the glass beside the door holds a hint of the porch. Pure white glass cannot be recovered later.
- **Show what comes next**: A view from the entry that includes the staircase or the opening into the living room tells buyers how the home is laid out.

## What makes entryways hard to photograph

- **Backlit by the front door**: Sidelights, transoms and glass doors push strong daylight into a small, otherwise dim space.
- **Narrow spaces**: Foyers and halls leave little room to step back, so photographers often shoot from the door threshold or the bottom stair.
- **A single overhead fixture**: Many entries depend on one pendant or flush light, which can leave the walls at either side darker than the center.
- **The first impression**: An entryway is often the first interior photo in a listing, so its color and brightness set expectations for the rest.
- **Finished with the rooms beyond**: NovaHDR finishes the property as a set, so the foyer's walls and floor match the hall and living room.
- **Natural, not overbright**: The finished look is bright enough to understand the space and restrained enough to keep its character.

## Entryway features and what to check

| Feature | Common exposure or color problem | What to check before sending |
|---|---|---|
| Sidelights and transom | Glowing white glass | Some porch detail in the source |
| Foyer pendant | Blown bulbs, dark corners | Fixture on, dimmed if needed |
| Console and mirror | Reflection of the camera | Angle where the mirror shows the room |
| Tile or wood floor | Reflects the door glass | Camera height that softens the glare |
| View into the hall | Darker corridor beyond | Exposure with detail at the far end |

## What does finishing an entryway photo mean?

Finishing an entryway photo means holding the bright door glass, lifting the dim hall and keeping the floor, trim and walls in their real colors so the first interior photo sets the right tone. NovaHDR finishes the entryway in the same set as the rest of the home, for your final review.

_It is not a door or decor change: the front door, fixtures and furnishings are not swapped, and nothing is removed from the console._

## Entryway photo questions

### Can the glowing sidelights next to my front door be fixed?

Only as far as the source allows. Sidelights with some detail are balanced with the hall; glass that is pure white stays white.

### Should the front door be open or closed in the photo?

Usually closed. An open door adds harsh daylight and porch clutter, while the sidelights still bring in enough light.

### Will the entryway match the living room photos?

Yes, when they are uploaded in the same property. NovaHDR finishes them together so the foyer leads naturally into the next room.

### Can shoes and coats be taken out of the entryway photo?

No. Items in the frame stay in the frame, so clear them on site.

### What kind of file should the entryway be?

A JPEG, PNG or WebP per view, up to 50 MiB each. RAW and TIFF files are not accepted.

### What does a full property cost?

One property of up to 50 photos, entryway included, is $29 one-time for one property, or one credit on a plan.
