# Home theater photos with readable seating and the mood intact

A dedicated home theater is built to shut out light: dark walls and carpet, acoustic panels, deep reclining seats and usually no windows at all. The only light tends to come from step lights, sconces, a star ceiling or color changing LED strips, and the large projection screen at the front reads as a flat bright or dark rectangle. NovaHDR finishes the theater with the rest of the property, so the seating rows and wall finishes stay readable, the accent lighting keeps its character and the room still feels like a cinema.

The screen stays as it was on the day: the finish is exposure and color, not content on the wall.

## How to send a home theater

1. **Export the views of the room** The usual frames are from the back row toward the screen and from the front corner looking back at the seating. Export each as JPEG, PNG or WebP; if you bracket in very dark rooms, merge in your own software first and export one image per view.
2. **Upload it with the lower level** Name the property and add the theater to the full upload, up to 50 photos. Theaters are usually part of a basement or bonus room level, and finishing them together keeps the carpet and trim colors consistent.
3. **Send the property and review** Settle it with One Property or a plan credit, then send the property along with its theater. The set is back 24 to 72 hours after you send the property, and you check it before your client sees it.

## Home theater capture notes

Theaters are the darkest rooms most photographers shoot. These habits make the source workable.

- **Use house lights, not show lights**: Raise the sconces and step lights to a level where you can see the walls and seats. Full show darkness gives very little detail to work with.
- **Pick one accent color**: If the LED strips change color, set them to a single neutral or warm setting. Rainbow strips are hard to keep natural in a set.
- **Decide what the screen shows**: A blank screen is the honest choice. A screen showing a still is in the source and stays there, so choose deliberately with the agent.
- **Use a tripod and longer exposures**: The low light needs time. A tripod keeps the seats sharp and the shadows clean.
- **Recline nothing**: Return every recliner to upright and line up the rows. One reclined seat draws the eye.
- **Shoot from the back row**: A view from behind the last row shows the scale of the room, the screen and the seating in one frame.

## What makes home theaters hard to photograph

- **No daylight**: Dedicated theaters usually have no windows, so all light comes from fixtures and accent lighting.
- **Dark finishes everywhere**: Dark walls, carpet, acoustic panels and leather seats absorb light and hide their texture.
- **Colored accent lighting**: Star ceilings, step lights and color changing LED strips add strong color to a room that has little else.
- **A large screen**: The projection screen is often the biggest flat surface in the room and can read as a bright or dark block.
- **Finished with the rest of the house**: NovaHDR finishes the property as a set, so the theater's carpet and trim agree with the lower level around it.
- **Nothing placed on the screen**: The finishing is exposure and color. Nothing is put on the screen and nothing in the room is changed.

## Home theater features and what to check

| Feature | Common exposure or color problem | What to check on site |
|---|---|---|
| Seating rows | Dark leather loses shape | Sconces raised, seats upright |
| Acoustic panels and walls | Dark fabric with no texture | Exposure that keeps panel edges visible |
| LED strips and star ceiling | Strong colored light | One neutral or warm setting |
| Projection screen | Flat bright or dark rectangle | A deliberate choice of what it shows |
| Bar or snack counter | Under-counter lights in a different color | Matching lights or extras off |

## What does finishing a home theater photo mean?

Finishing a home theater photo is the exposure and color pass that keeps the seats, walls and panels readable in a room with no daylight, while letting the accent lighting stay part of the mood. NovaHDR does this as part of the whole property, so the theater looks like a room in the same home rather than a separate dark box.

_It is not a screen insert or a lighting effect: nothing is placed on the screen, and accent lights are not recolored or added._

## Home theater photo questions

### Can a movie image be added to the home theater screen?

No. NovaHDR does exposure and color work and does not insert anything. The screen stays as it was when you shot it.

### How dark can a home theater photo be and still be finished?

Finishing works with the detail in the source. A tripod frame with the sconces raised gives plenty to work with; areas that are pure black stay black.

### Should the color changing LEDs be on?

Set them to one neutral or warm color. A single accent color keeps the room natural next to the other rooms in the set.

### Will the theater match the rest of the basement?

Yes, when it is in the same property. The whole set is finished together so carpet and trim agree.

### Which files does a home theater need?

Export one JPEG, PNG or WebP for each theater view, no larger than 50 MiB. RAW and TIFF files are not accepted, so convert dark room captures before uploading.

### How much does a property with a theater cost?

Rooms are not priced separately: up to 50 photos per property for $29 one-time for one property, or one credit.
