# Pool photos with controlled glare and honest water color

A pool is a mirror in the middle of the yard. The water reflects the sky and the sun, so glare can turn part of the surface white, and its color depends on the sky, the pool finish and the time of day. Pale concrete or stone coping around the edge is often the brightest surface outside, while shaded loungers and the back of the house sit much darker. NovaHDR finishes the pool views with the rest of the property, balancing the bright deck and water against the shade and keeping the house and hardscape in their real colors.

The water, sky and landscaping stay as photographed: no sky replacement and no recolored water.

## How to send pool photos

1. **Export the pool from its best angles** Most pool sets include a view from the house across the water, a view back toward the house over the pool and often a raised or drone view showing the shape. Export each as JPEG, PNG or WebP; merge any bracket sets in your own software first.
2. **Upload with the backyard and interiors** Name the property and upload the pool with every other photo, up to 50 per property. Pools are framed by the back of the house and the patio, which should match the rest of the exterior set.
3. **Send it and review** Use One Property or a plan credit and send the property. The finished set arrives 24 to 72 hours after you send the property, for your review.

## Pool capture notes

Water reacts to light more than anything else on a property, so time and angle are everything.

- **Shoot with the sun behind you**: With the sun behind the camera, the water shows its color; shooting toward the sun turns the surface into glare.
- **Skim and clean the pool**: Leaves, debris and the cleaner hose stay in the finished photo. Skim the surface and remove the hose.
- **Let the water settle**: Turn off fountains and jets for a few minutes so the surface is calm and reflects the house cleanly, unless the feature is the point.
- **Remove the cover**: A pool cover hides the main feature. Remove it if the agent agrees.
- **Raise the camera**: A higher viewpoint shows the shape of the pool and how it sits in the yard.
- **Arrange the loungers**: Line up loungers and umbrellas and fold away towels so the deck reads as tidy.

## What makes pools hard to photograph

- **Water reflects the sky**: The water's color and brightness depend on the sky above it, so a grey day gives grey water.
- **Sun glare**: Shooting toward the sun turns part of the surface into bright glare with no detail.
- **Pale coping and decking**: Concrete, travertine and pale stone around the pool are often the brightest surfaces outside.
- **Shaded areas next to bright water**: Covered patios, cabanas and loungers in shade sit much darker than the sunlit water.
- **Finished with the exterior set**: NovaHDR finishes the property as a set, so the pool views match the backyard and the rest of the house.
- **Water and sky stay as photographed**: The finishing is exposure and color only. The sky is not replaced, and water and lawn keep their real color.

## Pool features and what to check

| Feature | Common exposure or color problem | What to check on site |
|---|---|---|
| Water surface | Glare, grey under cloud | Sun behind the camera, a clear day |
| Coping and deck | Brightest surface outside | Exposure that keeps texture in the stone |
| Cabana or covered patio | Deep shade next to bright water | Shadow detail in the source |
| Pool cover and cleaner | Hides or clutters the pool | Cover off, hose and cleaner out |
| Water features | Choppy surface, spray | Jets off, or on deliberately |

## What does finishing a pool photo mean?

Finishing a pool photo is the exposure and color pass that balances bright water and pale decking against shaded seating and the back of the house. NovaHDR finishes the pool views with the rest of the property, and the water, sky and garden stay as they looked on the day.

_It is not water or sky enhancement: the pool is not recolored, the sky is not replaced and debris is not removed._

## Pool photo questions

### Can grey pool water be made blue?

No. The water reflects the sky you shot under, and its color stays as photographed. Shoot on a clear day with the sun behind you for the bluest water.

### Can glare on the pool surface be removed?

Only as far as the source allows. Glare that is pure white has no detail to recover, so change the angle or time on site.

### Will leaves floating in the pool be removed?

No. Debris in the frame stays in the finished photo, so skim the pool before shooting.

### Is the sky above the pool replaced?

No. The sky over the pool stays the sky you photographed, and so does its reflection in the water.

### Can drone shots of the pool be in the same property?

Yes. Upload them as JPEG, PNG or WebP files, up to 50 photos in total for the property.

### How much does a property with a pool cost?

One property of up to 50 photos, pool views included, is $29 one-time for one property, or one plan credit.
