Photomatix vs Lightroom Classic HDR merge

Both merge exposure brackets, which is the step most real estate photographers do before any finishing. Photomatix Pro is dedicated HDR software, $99 one-time as of October 2026, with real estate interior presets and batch merging through a Lightroom plugin. Lightroom Classic includes HDR Photo Merge inside a full catalog and editor, from US$11.99 a month, and outputs a DNG with Auto Tone, Auto Align and deghost options. Choose Photomatix for interior presets and a one-time license. Choose Lightroom Classic if you already catalog and edit there.

We make NovaHDR, which is not one of these two products. We compared Photomatix Pro and Adobe Lightroom Classic using their public pages, checked October 12, 2026.

How Photomatix Pro and Adobe Lightroom Classic differ

Presets made for interiors

HDRsoft recommends at least 5 brackets at 2 EV or 9 at 1 EV for high-contrast interiors, and ships presets named "Natural" and "Interior 2" to "Interior 4". Lightroom Classic's help page offers Auto Tone as "a good starting point" rather than interior presets.

One catalog for everything

Lightroom Classic merges inside the catalog you already use, can stack the brackets with the result, and keeps the merged DNG ready for further edits.

One-time license or subscription

Photomatix Pro 7 is $99 with a license that "never expires" and a free upgrade to Pro 8. Lightroom Classic comes with Adobe plans from US$11.99 a month, billed annually.

Batch merging

Photomatix sells an HDR Batch Plugin for Lightroom at $69 and promotes batch HDR merge. Lightroom Classic merges a selection at a time from the Photo Merge menu.

Trying them

The Photomatix trial does not expire but adds a watermark. Adobe offers a free trial of Lightroom, length not stated on the product page.

Where NovaHDR fits

Whichever tool you merge in, NovaHDR starts after the merge. Export the merged images as JPEG, PNG or WebP, upload up to 50 photos per property and send it. NovaHDR does not merge brackets; it finishes the set with balanced exposure and consistent color from room to room, delivered 24 to 72 hours after you send the property, so you are not doing every correction yourself.
