Photomatix Pro alternatives

Photomatix Pro from HDRsoft is a one-time-purchase program that merges bracketed photos into HDR images, with real estate interior presets and batch merging. Photographers look for alternatives when tone mapping every set takes too long, when they want the merge inside their main editor, or when they want someone else to finish the exposure and color. The closest options are Lightroom Classic, Luminar Neo and Autoenhance.ai for merging in the browser. NovaHDR is a different step: it finishes the set you export.

We make NovaHDR, one of the alternatives below. We compared Photomatix Pro and each alternative on what you get, what you send and price, using each vendor's public pages, checked October 12, 2026.

What is Photomatix Pro?

Photomatix Pro merges bracketed photos into an HDR image "that captures detail in both the darkest and brightest areas". It reads JPEG, TIFF, DNG and RAW from the major camera brands, offers real estate presets such as Natural and Interior, and costs $99 one-time as of October 2026.

No "Photomatix Real Estate" desktop edition is sold; real estate work uses Photomatix Pro presets.

What Photomatix Pro does well

Built for brackets

For high-contrast interiors HDRsoft recommends at least 5 brackets at 2 EV or 9 at 1 EV, with presets for interiors.

One-time license

Photomatix Pro 7 is $99 and "The license never expires", with a free upgrade to Pro 8.

Try it without a deadline

The trial does not expire; it adds a watermark.

Where Photomatix Pro falls short for finishing property sets

You run every merge

Merging and tone mapping each set is still your work.

Lightroom batch costs extra

The HDR Batch Plugin for Lightroom is $69 on its own, or part of the $129 Pro Plus Bundle.

Merge, not the whole finish

Consistency across rooms still depends on your own pass after tone mapping.

Why real estate photographers look for a Photomatix Pro alternative

  • Every set still needs your merge and tone mapping time.
  • Batch merging from Lightroom needs a separate $69 plugin or the $129 bundle.
  • A watermarked trial means you only see clean results after buying.
